Blessed: The Sermon On The Mount

Many times people hear or read the opening words of Matthew 5: “Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for they shall inherit the Kingdom of God.” And they think; “Am I supposed to try to be like that? And even though the Beatitudes say “blessed” over and over again, they actually can end up making people feel guilty or defeated because people look at them and think, “I’m not like that. I don’t know that I would even want to be like that.” If you are one of those people, I have fantastic news! In these sayings, Jesus is not telling us what to do to be blessed. He's inviting those on the outside into his kingdom.
